FOR THE 2019 BRIGHT IDEAS PROGRAM

Don’t miss out on an incredible opportunity to enhance learning for North Carolina students.
The first step? Have a bright idea (or know someone that does).

Are you a passionate educator? Do you have a bright idea or know somebody who does? Then you may have what it takes to become a recipient of the 2019 Bright Ideas grant program, sponsored by North Carolina’s Touchstone Energy cooperatives.

For over two decades, this program has been helping hardworking teachers in our state by awarding grants for innovative, creative classroom projects that would otherwise never see the light of day. Last year alone we granted over $40,000 to 40 teachers across our service area. The grants, up to $2,000 per recipient, are available to K–12 teachers from public and private schools. Take seventh grade teacher Beth Elmore, who was recently celebrated by Carolina Panthers long snapper, J.J. Jansen, and mascot Sir Purr, for her “Watts Up” project which helps young students understand the power of electricity in a fundamental way.

To apply, teachers must outline a classroom project idea and include its budget, implementation, goals, creative elements, evaluation criteria and approval from the principal. Applications will be judged in a competitive evaluation process, and a selection committee will be on the lookout for projects that feature innovation and creativity.

Applications for the 2019 Bright Ideas program are available now! Teachers who submit their applications by the early bird deadline of August 16, 2019 will be entered to win a $100 Visa gift card. The deadline for teachers to submit their grant is Monday, September 23, 2019.
