WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL PROPANE.

Although propane has many safety features and is considered a safe fuel, it’s important to know what to do in case of an emergency. Manufacturers deliberately add a specific odor—similar to rotten eggs—to help homeowners determine when their propane system has a leak.

If you smell gas,
take the following steps

Extinguish flames and sparks.

Avoid using anything that can create a spark or electrical charge.

Leave the area immediately.

Shut off the gas.

If it’s safe to do so, turn off the main gas supply valve on your tank by turning it to the right.

Report the leak.

Call EnergyUnited Propane. If you can’t reach us, call 911 or your local fire department.

Do not return to the building or area until it is safe to do so.

Get your system checked ASAP.
