Each year, EnergyUnited seeks applicants for the Rural Electric Youth Tour (application PDFClick here to apply for the Washington 2015 Youth Tour). The Rural Electric Youth Tour for 2015 is to Washington D.C. on June 13-19.

(application PDFClick here for the Washington 2015 Youth Tour Brochure). The contest is open to all high school juniors in the 19-county EnergyUnited electric service area. Participants must complete an application form and write a brief essay in order to be considered for the contest.

Students who win the two available North Carolina Rural Electric Youth Tour spots sponsored by EnergyUnited, will join 1,500 high school students from the U.S. to learn about electric cooperatives, American history, and the United States government. Students will also visit the historic sites of the nation's capital and get a chance to meet with their congressional leaders. they'll also meet with Youth Tour alumni who serve as interns or staffers on Capitol Hill. Respresenting EnergyUnited on this trip is an excellent way to bolster college applications.

To be eligible for the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, the following provisions will govern the acceptance of applicants from the local cooperatives:
1. Applicants must have completed their junior year in high school, and be enrolled for their senior year at the time of the trip.
2. Applicants must be residents of a county served by EnergyUnited: Alexander, Cabarrus, Caldwell, Catawba, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stokes, Wilkes, and Yadkin. Applicants do not have to receive electric service from EnergyUnited.
3. Applications and essays must be completed and sent to EnergyUnited no later than Sunday, March 15, 2015

Please write a 250 to 500 word letter to an elected official on a separate piece of paper. The letter may be addressed to a local, state or national representative and should be on a topic important to you.

The top applicants will be invited to an interview in late March or early April. From this group, students will be selected to participate in the youth leadership conference in Washington, D.C. Applications and essays must be received by
5 p.m. on Sunday, March 15, 2015. No faxes will be accepted and applications should be mailed to:
