ENERGYUNITED ANNOUNCES SPORTS CAMP SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
STATESVILLE, N.C. – Three local students have been awarded Cooperative All-Stars Sports Camp Scholarships from EnergyUnited to attend summer basketball camps at two of North Carolina’s most well-known universities.
Jayden Aponte, a rising sixth grade student at Eastern Guilford Middle School in Guilford County, will attend the Carolina Basketball School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Clayton Goodwin, a rising sixth grader at Pine Lake Preparatory in Iredell County, will also attend the Carolina Basketball School in June.
Skylar McKiver, a rising sixth grade student at Ledford Middle School in Davidson County, will attend the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at N.C. State University.
“We are proud to support these students as they take part in an experience that builds confidence, character and lifelong skills,” said LaQuisha Parks, vice president of Energy Services and Corporate Communications at EnergyUnited. “Investing in youth development opportunities like this is part of our commitment to delivering a brighter energy future for the communities we serve.”
The Cooperative All-Stars Sports Camp scholarship program provides hands-on athletic and educational experience designed to support student growth both on and off the court. The students were selected through a competitive application process reviewed by a panel of judges. Applications highlighted academic performance, extracurricular involvement, essay responses, and short-answer reflections.
During the overnight camps, students will stay in the dorms while working closely with college coaches and staff. Campers receive instruction focused on developing fundamental basketball skills, teamwork and leadership, skills that extend well beyond the game.
The Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp is led by coach Wes Moore, his staff, and current and former Wolfpack women’s basketball players. The Carolina Basketball School is led by coach Michael Malone, his staff, and current and former Tar Heel men’s basketball players.
More than 50 students from across the state will attend a basketball camp on a Cooperative All-Stars Sports Camp Scholarship from electric cooperatives in North Carolina this year. Now in its 23rd year, the Cooperative All-Stars program reflects the ongoing commitment of electric cooperatives to youth development, education and community investment across North Carolina.
