Energy Saving Tips

From competitive pricing to high-efficiency equipment, EnergyUnited is committed to helping you get the most from your energy dollars. Regular tune-ups for your system and a well-insulated home are two surefire ways to keep energy bills in check, no matter how you heat your home.

Here are more tips to save energy and cut your fuel costs year-round:

  • Use a programmable thermostat to lower (or raise) the temperature during the day when you’re away. The latest systems can even be controlled remotely from your smartphone.
  • Install ceiling fans. They cost pennies to operate and allow you to set your thermostat higher while still keeping cool and comfortable.
  • Warm air rises. Reverse the direction of ceiling fans in the winter to push warm air down away from the ceiling.
  • Run appliances like the dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer only when you have full loads. This saves water as well as energy.
  • Keep furnace filters and heating vents clean and dust free so your system doesn’t have to work as hard to move warm air through your home. The same goes for the outdoor coils of your air conditioner.
  • Heating water is one of the biggest uses of energy in most homes. Keep the temperature of your water heater set to 130˚F. Laundering clothing in cold water will not only reduce your energy bills, it will help clothes last longer.
  • Turn off kitchen, bath and other ventilating fans after 15 minutes. Left running, these fans can pull out a houseful of warmed or cooled air in just an hour.
  • Plant shade trees around your outdoor a/c unit. A unit sitting in the sun can use significantly more energy to cool your home than one in the shade.
