“Your trust and partnership help us strengthen our communities…”

March is a time of growth and new opportunities across our communities. As the days grow longer and spring approaches, we’re reminded of the special people, great programs and impactful partnerships that make our cooperative strong.

This month, as we celebrate Women’s History Month, we recognize the many women across our cooperative whose leadership, expertise and dedication help power our communities every day. From the field to operations, member care to executive leadership, their contributions strengthen our cooperative and shape our future.

Our commitment to people and the long-term strength of our cooperative also extends to our support of veterans and military families through the GI Bill®. This month, I encourage you to read the featured story highlighting EnergyUnited’s participation in the federal GI Bill® Apprenticeship Program. The program provides U.S. veterans with meaningful career pathways in the energy industry by combining on-the-job training with industry-recognized credentials. By supporting veterans as they transition into skilled energy careers, EnergyUnited strengthens its workforce while honoring those who have served our country.

EnergyUnited is proud to invest in our community by supporting young people, students and athletes through initiatives like the Empowering the Future Scholarship and Cooperative All-Stars Sports Camp. The Empowering the Future Scholarship is awarded to two high school seniors planning to attend a college, university or technical school, helping them take the next step toward their educational goals. The Cooperative All-Stars Sports Camp offers rising sixth and seventh grade students the opportunity to attend basketball camp this summer at North Carolina State University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, encouraging teamwork, leadership and personal growth.

Applications for both programs are open through March 31, 2026. We encourage eligible students and families to apply early and take advantage of these opportunities designed to help students learn, grow and prepare for the future.

EnergyUnited is building a brighter, more resilient future by investing in our people, programs and communities.

We are also making important investments in our infrastructure to ensure the electric system remains safe, reliable and prepared to meet evolving energy needs. These commitments also guide our long-term planning as we implement a new rate structure for members this spring.

Our new residential rate structure will begin in April, with the change first appearing on your May bill. With the change just around the corner, it’s helpful to note that this updated rate focuses less on how much energy is used and more on when energy is used. Designed with members in mind, this approach supports EnergyUnited’s commitment to keeping energy affordable while ensuring long-term reliability. We encourage you to visit our website at EnergyUnited.com/rates to explore helpful resources and feel informed and prepared for the change coming in April.

Thank you for being part of our cooperative. Your trust and partnership help us strengthen our communities and build a brighter future for everyone we serve.

Warm regards,
Thomas Golden, CEO

FROM SERVICE TO SKILL: supporting veteransAT ENERGYUNITED

Veteran Jorge Lopez, Apprentice Lineman II at EnergyUnited, is building a career in the energy industry through the cooperative’s participation in the GI Bill apprenticeship program.

Transitioning from military service to civilian life presents both challenges and opportunities, including the pursuit of a meaningful civilian career. At EnergyUnited, veterans are finding opportunity, support and a clear path forward through the federal GI Bill® apprenticeship program.

As a participating employer, EnergyUnited provides eligible veterans with a pathway to turn their service experience into hands-on training and long-term careers. Apprentices earn competitive wages, receive industry-recognized credentials and apply their GI Bill benefits while learning on the job—supporting a smooth transition into the energy industry.

One of those veterans is Jorge Lopez, currently an apprentice lineman at EnergyUnited and an active participant in the GI Bill program. For Jorge, the apprenticeship provides both practical experience and financial support as he builds a future in a new field. His journey reflects EnergyUnited’s commitment to investing in people and creating pathways for success.

That commitment is supported by EnergyUnited’s Human Resources team, which includes three designated School Certifying Officials. These team members ensure veteran apprentices are properly enrolled and receive their benefits, helping remove barriers and simplify the process.

The GI Bill apprenticeship model benefits everyone involved. Veterans gain valuable experience and a stable career path, while EnergyUnited strengthens its workforce with skilled, motivated individuals. With the potential for additional veteran apprentices to join in the future, the cooperative continues to expand its impact through the program.

By supporting veterans and investing in workforce development, EnergyUnited is building strong careers and a brighter future for local communities.

ENERGY EFFICIENT Landscaping

Good landscaping isn’t just about curb appeal—it can also help keep your home comfortable and lower energy costs year-round. Here are some tips to consider for the upcoming planting season:

Create windbreaks: Dense trees, such as evergreens and shrubs, are most effective at blocking winter winds while also providing summer shade.

Shade wisely: Tall trees planted to the south and shorter trees or shrubs to the west help protect your home from direct and afternoon sun.

Improve airflow: Bushes around your home can provide shade, but avoid overly dense plants in humid areas so air can circulate freely and prevent moisture buildup.

A new rate for you

Last month we announced a new rate for you that will take effect April of this year. This new rate structure will focus less on how much energy you use and more on when you use it, with the changes first appearing on your May 2026 bill. You will continue to have access to all the electricity you need, but at a significantly reduced rate outside peak demand hours—the 20 hours each day when energy is the least expensive.
