EnergyUnited Foundation Awards $5,000 Grant to Pastor’s Pantry

The EnergyUnited Foundation is pleased to announce it has awarded a grant for $5,000 to Pastor’s Pantry, a non-profit food pantry that helps combat food insecurity for seniors in Davidson County. Pastor’s Pantry relies on volunteer support from community youth groups, civic organizations and churches to maintain daily operations. These volunteers also go one step further by assessing their clients’ food allergy and dietary needs to produce even more successful outcomes.

“So often senior citizens are forced to make impossible choices on fixed incomes that no one should have to make,” said Donna Mashburn, executive director of Pastor’s Pantry. “Seniors shouldn’t have to choose whether they will fill a prescription or buy groceries.”

Maureen Moore, communications manager for EnergyUnited, explained that the food pantries like Pastor’s Pantry are essential partners who help EnergyUnited in its continued efforts to improve the quality of life in the communities it serves.

“Food pantries help meet a crucial need for the communities that we serve,” Moore said. “Food insecurity is a major issue that continues to heavily impact rural communities, but Pastor’s Pantry has done an outstanding job of addressing this challenge head-on with support from passionate volunteers who are committed to serving the people of their community.”

The EnergyUnited Foundation is a voluntary, member-funded non-profit organization supported by EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program. Nearly 70,000 EnergyUnited members choose to participate in the program by ’rounding up’ their electric bills each month. The maximum monthly contribution for an individual member with one account is 99 cents. Each of these small contributions are pooled together in a single fund managed by the EnergyUnited Foundation to support needy individuals, families, and non-profit organizations like Pastor’s Pantry that complete an application explaining the reason and purpose for their requested grant.
