ENERGYUNITED DONATES $10,000 TO FAMILY PROMISE OF DAVIE COUNTY

STATESVILLE, N.C. – On Monday, September 9, 2019 the EnergyUnited Foundation presented a $10,000 check to Family Promise of Davie County (FPDC) to help combat homelessness in the Davie County area.

Family Promise is a national organization that formed in 1986 in New Jersey. In 1988, Family Promise began replicating the program model nationally. Family Promise was introduced to Davie County in 2015, and FPDC became the 200th affiliate nationwide. FPDC started serving families in September of 2017 and graduated its first families in November of 2017.

“Family Promise serves with the same cooperative spirit as the EnergyUnited Foundation,” said Debra Citta, EnergyUnited Foundation Administrator. “We are so pleased to be able to assist them in their effort to combat homelessness in Davie County, one family at a time.”

Family Promise of Davie County was also selected as the recipient of a grant from the Help Us Move In (HUMI) Foundation, a Washington state-based nonprofit working with communities to fund and create programs helping families facing housing crises. In its first year, HUMI grants totaled $100,000 nationwide and by using this unique matching model, the pilot program locations raised an incredible $367,958 more in their communities, totaling $467,958 to help families with children.

“We are honored to partner with HUMI and the EnergyUnited Foundation in our fight to end homelessness,” said Family Promise of Davie County Executive Director Lisa Foster. “This funding will allow us to serve many more families, especially those with children, in our community. We passionately believe that every family has promise and every child deserves a home.”

The EnergyUnited Foundation is a voluntary, member-funded non-profit organization supported by EnergyUnited’s Operation Round-Up program. Nearly 70,000 EnergyUnited members choose to participate in the program by ‘rounding up’ their electric bills each month. The maximum monthly contribution for an individual member with one account is 99 cents. Each of these small contributions are pooled together in a single fund managed by the EnergyUnited Foundation to support needy individuals, families, and non-profit organizations like Family Promise of Davie County that complete an application explaining the reason and purpose for their requested grant.
